When the gums are the issue.

Sometimes gum tissue is the problem: it has overgrown around a tooth, sits unevenly across your smile line, or needs to go so a tooth can be properly restored. A gingivectomy removes and reshapes that tissue. With a laser, the work is precise, bleeding is minimal, and the tissue is treated as it goes, which is why recovery tends to be gentler.

Here, the laser is a tool, not a slogan. It shines for contouring a gummy smile, tidying overgrown tissue, and prepping gums around restorative work. It's not a cure-all for periodontal disease; deep infection still calls for scaling and root planing and sometimes a specialist. Dr. Little will tell you plainly which situation yours is and what the laser can honestly add.

What to expect

How a laser visit goes.

Evaluate

Dr. Little examines the tissue and confirms a laser is the right tool for your situation, and she explains why.

Treat

We numb the area, then the laser reshapes the tissue precisely. Most procedures are shorter than patients expect (a nice surprise).

Heal

You get simple aftercare instructions. Discomfort is usually mild and manageable, and we check the result as you heal.

Costs, up front.

Cost depends on how many teeth or how much tissue is involved, and you'll get the written estimate before treatment, as always here.

When the procedure is part of restorative or periodontal care, plans often chip in at out-of-network rates; purely cosmetic contouring is typically not covered. We file eligible claims as a courtesy; see insurance and payment options.

Benefits, honestly

Dental insurance coverage.

Clarity Dental is not in-network with any insurance plan, and you can still be seen here. Most PPO plans pay out-of-network benefits toward care, and we file those claims as a courtesy so you do not have to.

  • Written estimates before treatment is scheduled
  • Out-of-network claims filed as a courtesy
  • CareCredit financing available
  • Cash, check, all major cards, HSA and FSA

Check your benefits

Bring your plan information to any visit, or call ahead, and the team will explain what your plan is likely to cover before treatment is scheduled.

Ask a question

Laser curious?

Does laser gum treatment hurt?
We numb the area first, and most patients report mild soreness afterward rather than real pain. Recovery from laser contouring is typically easier than from traditional techniques.
What is a gingivectomy?
It's removing and reshaping gum tissue to fix overgrowth, even out the gumline, or expose more of a tooth for restoration or appearance. The laser keeps the work precise and the healing gentler.
Can a laser fix my gummy smile?
Often, when the cause is extra gum tissue over normal-length teeth. An evaluation tells you whether contouring alone gets the result you want or whether more is involved.
Can lasers cure gum disease?
No single tool cures gum disease. Lasers help with specific tissue procedures, but infection below the gumline still needs deep cleaning and maintenance, and advanced cases need a periodontist. You'll always get the honest version of what your gums need.
