Restorative dentistry

Root canal treatment.

Root canal? Deep breath. It treats infection inside a tooth, relieves the ache that comes with it, and saves the tooth from extraction. Its reputation is scarier than the reality: with modern anesthetic, most patients say it felt like getting a long filling.

  • Fully numb before anything begins
  • Many root canals done right here in office
  • Honest referrals for complex cases
  • Same-day help sometimes possible

Save the tooth, lose the ache.

Inside every tooth is soft tissue that can get inflamed or infected when deep decay or a crack reaches it. That's the throbbing, hot-and-cold-sensitive pain people describe. Root canal treatment removes the infected tissue, disinfects the canals, and seals them. Afterward, the tooth usually needs a crown to protect it for the long run.

Dr. Little performs root canal treatment in office for many teeth. Some cases, such as certain molars with complex canal anatomy, are best handled by an endodontist. If yours is one of them, she'll tell you straight and refer you to a trusted specialist. Either way, your tooth gets the right hands.

What to expect

Here's how it actually goes.

Find the culprit

An exam and X-ray confirm the infection and which tooth is to blame. Pain that's hard to pin down often becomes obvious on imaging.

Clean it out

We numb the tooth thoroughly, remove the infected tissue, then clean and seal the canals. You stay comfortable throughout.

Protect it

The tooth gets restored, usually with a crown, so it can handle chewing again. We'll schedule that step before you leave.

The money part.

Cost depends on the tooth. Molars have more canals than front teeth and take more time. Saving a tooth generally costs less over the years than extracting and replacing it, and if extraction is genuinely on the table, you'll see both paths priced honestly.

PPO plans commonly share root canal costs at out-of-network rates, and we file the claim as a courtesy. Financing options can break the cost into bite-size pieces.

Benefits, honestly

Dental insurance coverage.

Clarity Dental is not in-network with any insurance plan, and you can still be seen here. Most PPO plans pay out-of-network benefits toward care, and we file those claims as a courtesy so you do not have to.

How insurance works here

Ask a question

Root canals, demystified.

Does a root canal hurt?
We numb the area thoroughly before anything begins, and most patients are surprised by how uneventful it feels. The pain people dread is usually the infection beforehand, which treatment relieves.
What happens if I skip the root canal?
Infection doesn't clear up on its own. It can spread, form an abscess, and eventually cost you the tooth, plus more discomfort and expense. Acting sooner keeps your options open.
Why would I be referred to a specialist?
Some teeth have curved or extra canals that benefit from an endodontist's equipment and daily focus. Referring those cases is what honest care looks like. Your outcome matters more than keeping the procedure in house.
Is pulling the tooth cheaper?
The extraction alone may be, but replacing the tooth afterward usually isn't, and leaving a gap brings its own costs. We'll walk you through the honest math for your situation.
