Preventive care

Nightguards and mouthguards.

Waking up with a sore jaw? Grinding and clenching can wear teeth flat, crack fillings, and leave your jaw achy in the morning. A custom nightguard puts a durable cushion between your teeth while you sleep. For sports, a custom mouthguard protects teeth far better than a store-bought boil-and-bite.

Your teeth could use some backup.

Many people grind without knowing it. The evidence shows up at exams: flattened edges, chipped enamel, cracked fillings, and teeth that are sensitive for no obvious reason. Jaw soreness and tension headaches on waking can be part of the picture too. A nightguard won't stop the grinding, but it soaks up the force so your teeth stop paying the bill.

Custom guards are made from a scan or impression of your mouth, so they fit precisely, stay put, and last far longer than drugstore versions. That fit is also why people actually wear them. Invested in crowns or veneers? A nightguard is inexpensive insurance for that work.

What to expect

From scan to snug fit.

Clue hunt

Dr. Little checks your teeth and bite for wear patterns and confirms which type of guard fits your situation.

Scan and craft

A digital scan or impression captures your bite, and your guard is made to fit it exactly.

Try it, tweak it

You try the guard in, we fine-tune the fit, and you head home with care instructions. Small tweaks later are part of the service.

Guard vs. a crack.

A custom guard costs more than a drugstore one and a lot less than fixing a cracked tooth or replacing a broken crown, which is the comparison that matters. You'll get the exact cost in writing first.

Some plans help pay for nightguards when wear is documented. We file out-of-network claims as a courtesy, and payment options are simple.

Benefits, honestly

Dental insurance coverage.

Clarity Dental is not in-network with any insurance plan, and you can still be seen here. Most PPO plans pay out-of-network benefits toward care, and we file those claims as a courtesy so you do not have to.

Ask a question

Got guard questions?

How do I know if I grind my teeth?
Often you don't, especially if it happens while you sleep. Worn edges, morning jaw tightness, and unexplained sensitivity are common clues. An exam can usually tell the story.
Is a custom nightguard really better than a store one?
Yes, in fit, comfort, and durability. Bulky drugstore guards are the ones that end up on the nightstand, not in your mouth, and that protects nothing.
How long does a nightguard last?
Several years for most people, depending on how hard you grind. We check yours at regular visits and give you a heads-up when it's nearing the end.
Should my child wear a sports mouthguard?
For contact sports and anything with flying elbows or hard surfaces, yes. A knocked-out permanent tooth is a lifelong project. A fitted guard is cheap by comparison.
